Competitive FAQ's

Event Box

(How do I use this site??)

  • On the left hand onside of each event calendar are links to the groups that sanction that event type. Often the link is directly to that groups page that refers to that activity. There are typically also links to good sport resources (ie. "Clean Run" on the agility page).

  • Each club name that is underlined has a link to the club's site.

  • Each event has a link on the far right hand side to either the clubs event page, their premium, their flyer or the email address of the show secretary.

Handy, but my dog doesn't have papers. So I can't do any of these sports.

In short... Bull. All of these groups have ways for dogs without papers to compete in sports. Pick a sport you're interested in and talk to someone in that group. Generally there are 3 types of registration:
  • Open Registration: Registering Group does not require the appearance of being purebred. This is most common in Agility (ie: USDAA, CPE), but also can apply to Obedience in ASCA. In ASCA you'd need a tracking number. This also applies to ASCA stockdog program. Please consult the Stockdog rules to see if your dogs primary breed is on the accepted breed list.

  • Limited Registration: Registering group will register dogs for their events if they appear to be purebred, but do not have papers. AKC refers to them as ILP's or the PAL program, ASCA refers to them as LEPs, and UKC calls the LP's. Each has their own rules, but all require pictures of the dog and proof of spay or neuter.

  • Closed Registration: Dogs with papers from the sanctioning body only. This is most common in Conformation.

So I've got my registration, I've watched some competitions and some classes and chosen my trainer. Do I need to go to another site for books and such?

On each events page on the right, you'll see pictures and links to books and DVD's. Books and DVD's are suggested by people that are involved in those sports. These items are sold by DogWise.com, but some of the proceeds go to support NWDog. DogWise is a local company here in the Northwest. Think Local, Act Global.
